The Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA) was formed in 1995 to improve the professional standards of the garage door, garage door operator and gate operator dealer industry, and to
encourage continuing business and technical education, foster self assessment, and recognize industry professionals demonstrating high levels of competence and ethics. As part of this process
IDEA tests garage door and operator dealers and gate operator dealers on their knowledge and understanding about their business.
Accreditatin by IDEA is earned by the successful completeion of six study sections and examinations covering all aspects of the door and operator business. The accreditation also requires that the
dealer be in the business for at least two years, have two letters of recommendation, proof of insurance, and a federal employer tax ID number or resale permit.
The accreditation is maintained by completing three continuing education courses over three years.
IDEA is a non-profit educational foundation established to provide professional door, gate, and operator dealers with the knowledge and skills required to be competitive in today's rapidly changing
business environment.
